Matariki

Matariki, the Māori New Year, is rich with tradition and the Māori name for a group of 7 stars known as the Pleiades star cluster. The disappearance of Matariki in Autumn is an important marker in the harvest calendar as it signals the time to gather and preserve crops, such as kumara, pikopiko and karaka berries.
