Egyptian Rhythms and Dance

Egyptian Rhythms and Dance explores Egyptian culture through dance, music and engaging discussion. Students will learn about the cultural significance of regional dances, and the evolution of social folk dance to stage performance. Through percussive instruments and body percussion, students will experience a range of Folkloric dance styles and rhythms from across Egypt. Older students can also delve into the issues of Orientalism and the Western ‘mythstory’ surrounding bellydance (Raks Sharqi). This highly interactive and engaging program can be tailored to suit different age groups.
